Lately since I have been collecting India rupees and mohurs, I have came across some other coins during searches. Yesterday, I came across these 2 Persian coins and I really loved the character and condition of them so I made an deal for both. Persia(Iran), Qajar: FathAli shah ; 1212-1250 AH/1797-1834; Silver Riyal (10.29 g 24.5 mm), Mint of Rasht, Struck AH 1224, Album-2880 Persia (Iran), Qajar: FathAli shah ; 1212-1250 AH/1797-1834; Silver Qiran (6.88 g 19 mm), Mint of Dar al-Aman Kirman, Struck AH 1241 (1825), Album-2894 I have even dabbed a bit into Afghanistan rupees and small Islamic gold coins when I can find eye appealing examples. Feel free to share comments or your related coins.
Mine too. I have a friend that is fluent who helps me if they aren't already attributed. Same with the India rupees.
I love Persia, but have never gotten much into the Islamic stuff. I have about every Pre-Islamic ruler, plus tons of ancillary Eastern countries with strong relations to Persia. For some reason these script coins do not do anything for me.
Yea its funny because 2 years ago they didn't for me either. I stayed away from them. Now there is new appeal.
@Old World Coins Might I ask you where you frequently go to get the Indian coins? I have been looking for some Princely States and Nepalese coins form 1966 and have come up empty. I've tried MA Coins, Delcamp, eBay, and I am having a doozy of a time.
Fair enough. Every coin deserves a home, and maybe some day it will simply hit me and I will start to collect them. I actually have quite a few, being a Persian collector. I know I bought a group lot of about 24 of the Mongols in Persia, (Ilkhanids?) once to see if I was interested, plus some other odds and ends that came with Persian group lots.
Steve Album, who has an auction coming up, always has them. Vauctions also has them some at time.
Steve Album, who has an auction coming up, always has them. Vauctions also has them some at time.
I have bought some coins from his auctions before.
Late 60's, I was assuming it most likely. most of these will be inexpensive, so I was thinking group lots of his he has. I have seen tons of groups of indian coins up to almost modern day in his auctions sir. You might have to buy a few hundred at a shot, but for me that is a positive not a negative. Individual coins I think Ebay is best, unless you go to a large coin show and seek out world coin dealers. Either that, or find a buddy like me who lives near you and lets you come over and pick through his world coin boxes.
Okay, I'll have to look. I've been searching for over a year. Ebay, Delcamp, MA Shops have been a wash like the other places. I need coins from Bundi (1/4 Rupee, 1/2 Rupee, Square Rupee), Kutch (5 Kori), and Nepal (50 Paisa - small and 1 Rupee). All from 1966 (1909 or 2023) Been tough going.
Have you seen these new listings on MA-Shops? https://www.ma-shops.com/shops/sear...n&catid=6&submitBtn=Search&lang=en&days_new=3
