i have to laugh when i see people trying to over grade notes for big profits!! Here is an example of an mpc that has been listed for months with no takers! What would you grade it?
According to that, I have a pocket full of XF Gem notes! Well creased, bashed corners, dirt smears.... yep, got a lot of those!
Listed for months? Guess there's not that many stupid bidders on e-bay as I thought...... Or maybe none of 'em have a clue as to what's being offered.
Well I know with coins the terms XF and GEM contradict each other. I assume GEM in the world of paper refers to the same thing as it does with metal?
Your right!! all the years i,ve been dealing paper i have never heard the term XF-Gem The terms dont go hand in hand i assure you!
It would not be any better than a Fine in my book. I answered VF 20 only because your poll did not go any lower.
It,s on the edge that,s for sure!! I found this one to on e-bay that is just laughable A/U 50 In your dreams! check this one out! http://cgi.ebay.com/US-MPC-Series-692-20-Military-Payment-Certificate_W0QQitemZ310235753109QQcategoryZ3418QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5425157628303299736
What's funny is when you google "Security Currency Grading" it comes up as a Highway/Street Construction company.
using the uk grading system i would rate it as good. which is a damn sight lower than the description.
It really is amazing what people try to get for notes that they grade themselves and yes There all over e-bay!
Yes, these are seriously overgraded. You can see that they're scheisters from the get go. What get's me as well are those who tell you to "grade for yourself" from a bad photo, or worse yet, a guy who sells banknotes predominately yet tells you to grade yourself because he doesn't grade paper money. I mean c'mon - a guy sells tons of paper money, but doesn't know how to grade, yet tells you that you should grade yourself from a bad photo? That should send everyone to anyone else, but they keep on selling and have an evidently decent business going as they stay open. I happen on them once in a while when looking around. ANother thing is the term "Choice" which I've seen applied to notes as low as Fine. CH-F for example. I know that choice is supposed to mean that it has all the elements needed for that grade, but it makes it sound better, and though it's only a selling point (like gas being $3.279 instead of $3.28) it seems slimy and I avoid them to. Choice AU or Choice UNC seems ok to me, but otherwise it sounds sleezy to me. Well, it all goes back to basics- learn to grade yourself and buy from reputable dealers.
all it needs a little honesty, i once sold an alexander III scottish penny, i described the coin as a superb coin which unfortunately been ruined by a cut half way across the flan. the buyer was delighted with the coin and thanked me for my honesty and he has since bought several coins from me.
