I have a 1942 penny with the dot after unum missing.....was this intentional or is it a bona fide error?

My assumption is you are asking about a 1942 US cent coin.
In the strictest sence of the word error, yes it is one, but a minor one.
On that note there are different types of Error coins.
A Minor Error is one that is common and has no value past the educationally one. They are usually "comes with the territory of making coins" type of errors.
A Major Error is less common and one that can be seen (usually) with the unaided eye. These have monetary value because they are more desirable by collectors.
