A few months back (as you may recall) I made a Lincoln Portrait out of pennies: Penny Project Well I've done a couple more projects since then and would like to share the results... Penny Project 2 This one came out okay, but not great. I used a smaller board (16" x 16") than the first project (18" x 24"). Therefore I had to use a simple "pixel" design since it was too small to do something with great detail. As a result it's not as sophisticated as the other two projects. The design is of the mushroom from the Nintendo game Super Mario Bros. 3... I didn't take any progress photos as I was putting the pennies in place. First photo I took was this one just prior to getting epoxy coated... This one is difficult to see up close. It looks better from a distance. You can actually see the design better in the thumbnails than full image, which is similar to the distance effect. Penny Project 3 First let me start by saying I really like how this one came out. I did something a little different for this one in that I didn't cover the whole surface with pennies. It's also the largest board of the 3 projects (20" x 30"). I don't think I have to describe the design for this one. It's a universally known logo...
At this point the penny placement is complete. This next photo is just after pouring the epoxy resin (still liquid)... Now dry and finished...
A few side notes... - I know better as a collector to call cents "pennies", but only do so on this thread for search engine optimization, which is what most people call them. - Mushroom took a total of 441 cents - Playboy took a total of 420 cents to complete (less than smaller mushroom due to "open" space)
Very nice rendition of the bunny, btw the last nude edition will be the January/February 2016. Buy it because it will surely be a collectible!
That's actually not a bad idea. I have it in mind to do that eventually (nude woman portrait). It's going to have to wait until after the next one which is already decided.
Going to do my version of what many consider a masterpiece... Mona Lisa. It's going to take some time though. For starters I'm going to use a larger board than any of the previous ones. In studying the painting, I also noted that I will need at least 5 general shades of color, probably more. I guess we'll see how it comes out, lol.
Last nude Playboy issue. What are they going to do? Revive their landmark fiction? Hate to tell them that Norman Mailer and Ian Fleming aren't around to help anymore...
