Penny Foil?

    OK, So I do carpentry work and my son and I wanted to make a homemade stain from copper pennies using vinegar ( makes a very nice blue) and so we placed a bunch of copper pennies into a small jar and my son then noticed this floating around in there.

    Looks like the cladding/foil from one of the pennies slipped off.

    You can see on the heads side where some of it is missing and also the pic of the edge where it's still intact and connected to the tails side.

    Is this common?

    Any interest in this?

    It's copper plated zinc. All cents after 1982 are this composition. 1982 came in both compositions. The zinc dissolves away much faster than the copper.
    For your purposes, you want to use cents dated 1981 or earlier.

    typo? '82 came in both, use 81 or earlier...

    Thanks for the explanation...yeah we had all copper, that one snuck in.

    So who wants to buy it...
