Dr. Sheldon described the 1814 cent as the most common of all the early cents from 1793 to 1814. These pieces were made during the War of 1812 when The United States was in dire straits. Very high grade Mint State pieces with full mint red, or much of any red for that matter, are unknown, but the date is plentiful in the lower grades.

It is also one of the easier dates to find in EF or better.

This 1814 Cent is a Sheldon Variety # 294. It is rated as an R-1. This piece was once in the collection of Wes Rasmussen.

NGC graded this piece AU-58, but the EAC grade is EF-40 because of the scrape in the right obverse field. You won’t be able to buy it for EF money however..
