I'm relatively new to coin collecting and I think I've found some errors, but I'm not sure. The first is a silverly looking 2000D penny. It's the same diamater and thickness of a normal one, but I don't have the equipment to weigh it. It's not completely silver though. It's more of a gold color in some areas (especially the obverse), but definately not normal. I've also got a 2002D dime that's copper colored. There's some silver coloring on his cheek. The edge has rings of nickel and copper like a normal dime. It's the same thickness and diameter of a normal dime. This makes me think that someone tried to plate it. Pics attached. Thanks.
First, welcome to the forum. Error #1: It is a cent, not a penny, that is a British coin. (Sorry, had to say it.) Next: Both appear to just be toned coins. The dime looks like some that I have found metal detectin at the beach. The cent? Could have been plated, post mint.
Welcome to the forum, collecting varieties and errors can be fun and rewarding. The cent was most likely plated after it left the mint, It is done often in school. Have fun, learn and enjoy your time here. Bill
