It's this damage from gas bubbles? 20190603_123644.jpg 20190603_123746.jpg

some of the holes look squarish .. like from the tip of nails before the round shaft.

Possible. Its part of +300 pennies what I get from mother in law, and only one with this kind of damage. I find 1p coins wth possible double die, die break etc ,but this was different. Thanks for help

if you notice up close, the metal is pushed aside around each hole.
A drill bit would remove metal.
where as a nail tip would displace metal like it shows + wear.

not that I've ever done anything like that ... :bored: :angelic:

Drill bits in soft metals tend to show that type of hole. Bits will produce cleaner holes in hard metal as it resists the twisting force of the bit's leading edge until cut through. Soft metal like copper or aluminum tends to wrap around if the bit isn't well sharpened. MO , Jim

I have one of these as well also a 1944 no mint mark. My holes are a little bigger but look very close to yours. edited - do not post contact info
