Hi, today I want to show you a penny of 1929-D with two errors. A Y instead of the T of TRUST and the mint mark D of Denver closed inside maybe too small the character so much to look like a closed D. I also place a magnification in the obverse where you see very well a Y instead of T. What do you think? can it be said that it has some faulty mottos? thanks for your comments
Oh boy, here we go. To start, not RB, straight BN. Next, that’s not a Y in TRUST, the T just took a hit and as it went through circulation it wore down to look like a Y. As for the MM, it’s possible there was a die chip, but most of what you are seeing is from simple cirulation wear and tear.
All circulation wear and tear.. Not any Mint Errors at all. Believe me when I say this. There is no reason for the US Mint to replace any letters such as a Y for a T.. Just damage.
you do not see signs of blows suffered by T that area is clean to be a deformed T from the press and not so much wear that it looks like a Y the stem of the second T of trust be longer than the first, that's why it seems uan Y
Umm no.. Your Cent is 90 years old. Any signs of a hit would of been worn down decades ago during circulation. Again I say.. It is not a Mint Error
It's brown, no red at all. I posted a red coin for you in another thread. The letters you mentioned have been struck by another object, probably a coin. Copper is a very soft metal and it can easily be moved. Your is slightly damaged from 90 years of circulation, being handled, etc. no errors.
New pic! today I made a new picture much clearer, I confirm that to be a Y and not a much shorter T the stem of the Y. and on the letter Y you do not see any external blow immediately
The Die that struck this coin is extremely hard metal. It is engraved with the motto, a T in this case. Millions of them were struck. How can it be a Y as you suggest? The Die was not changed. If it was, millions of these would be in circulation. As explained, copper is soft and the top of the T was struck causing the T to look like a Y. Impossible to be what you claim.
ok not to be a Y but to be a deformed T and certainly not by external shots as the side parts are perfect
You have just explained a hit. It doesn't take much force to create what you are seeing. I hit could easily touch the T but miss the rim.
