I read ancient history and Amazon sent me a list of books they want to sell me including biographies of the Roman emperors Constantius II, Maximinus, Commodus, and Aurelian, as well as some other history books, from a publisher I do not know: "Pen and Sword." The authors seem to be amateurs as opposed to academic historians, but amateurs often know enough to write a good book. I wonder if any of you know any of the books and know how close "good" these biographies really are. To insert a related coin, here is a Constantius II (324-337-361): FEL TEMP REPARATO Emperor standing left holding Victory and standard with chi-rho, one captive to left at his feet. This type was minted only at Thessalonica. 24 mm. 5.78 grams. 12:00. RIC VIII Thessalonica 178 variety (officina B not listed) page 418. However, this thread asks about the books, not the coin. If you know any "Pen and Sword" books, what do you think of them?
I know nothing. I did see one that appealed to me and the Amazon resource has quite a few excerpts from it, https://www.amazon.com/Military-His...WKS_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1485540385&sr=1-1 Keep us posted.

I have a couple in my Amazon watch list, but I have not pulled the trigger yet. May try one in the near future.
Sorry, I don't. Although when I went and checked their website I saw a book I would be interested in reading.
I have one in my library. https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Imperial-General-Hardback/p/3126 I read it several years ago and recall it being a fairly good effort. Then again, Philip Matyszak is an established author with an engaging style.
