Definite griffin. Teos, maybe? Edit: that was just my quickie first impression. Of course a lot of other Greek polities used griffons/gryphons on their coins. I like 'em all.
Well domestic cats ya have to look under its tail. Most dogs how ever all ya have to do is look. Birds it been a long time but I remember the vet squeezing something, or it has to do with bill color. Never actually seen a griffin so I'm not to sure just jokes.

Ummm, they claim that symbol-pair is "Dog & Snake" ... although fox or crocodile are probably better guesses than dog, eh? (oh well, they're the ancient coin gurus)
