I'm wondering how much would be a fair price to sell these? I don't know nothing about coin collecting but i want to sell these to finance my personal hobby. all i know is that the first one is a 1883 CC Morgan dollar and that this one is a 1923 Peace dollar Thanks
The peace dollar looks circulated. Price around $10 - $13 The morgan $85 - $125 unless it's a better grade than I can detect from the photo.
I would bet that it is in a GSA Holder! Now the question is: Is that a crack in the plastic holder or a Die Crack running from the "B" in PLURIBUS southwest through the "Y" in LIBERTY then on southwest just above Miss Liberty's ear and across her face to the first Star to the left of the Date???? Also, there appears to be another crack in the plastic holder or possible Die Crack across Miss Liberty's face just to the northwest of the above mentioned one. Normally Die Cracks have little effect on the value of Morgan Dollars but if that is what they are, then a Morgan Dollar with Die Cracks of this significance would probably be given a VAM designation and would be worth somewhat more than a normal 1883-CC Morgan. In any event, I believe that the Morgan is an Uncirculated GSA Dollar and from what little than I can discern from the pictures, it is probably an MS-63 and would probably fetch $180 to $200 or more! The 1923 Peace Dollar would generally fetch from $12 to $14. Frank
Very nice...the morgan is worth approx. $200 and the peace dollar is worth a bit over the silver spot. Nice!
You might want to see if you can purchase a GSA Holder off of eBay! You will more than likely only find one that comes with the Box and COA but by replacing the plastic holder, the coin with bring a higher price versus one in a cracked holder. Frank
One the side, you will find a seam between the front and back pieces of the holder. You can usually insert the blade of a sharp knife into the seam and pry the holder open. However, if the heat sealings are intact, then you will have to cut through them before you can pry it open. If you get a replacement holder off of eBay or wherever, you will see that someone (probably a Coin Dealer) did pretty much the same to the holder that you receive. Place the Silver Dollar in the replacement holder, put a little Super Glue along the inside of the seam (glue isn't needed all of the way around unless you want to completely seal the holder) on either the front of back portions of the holder and put the holder back together. Clean up any excess glue along the edges of the holder and you could place a book on top of it until the glue drys to ensure that it will stay together. Frank
Of course, if you want to be honest and ethical, avoid misrepresenting what you are selling by prominently stating in your listing that the coin is neither the original occupant of the holder, nor the one the COA pertains to.
Roy, I did not mention such as I think that everyone is responsible for the own dealings and conscience! Most folks would be able to tell that the holder was replaced and the Seller should note such as the original holder was cracked. There is no reason to use the COA that comes with the replacement holder, unless the original is missing. I also have trouble with Sellers that place raw CC Dollars in GSA holders with Box and COA without disclosing such in attempt to get a higher price. However, holders, Boxes and COA's are replaced all of the time due to loss or damage and most people that do so, try to obtain the correct Date (1883-CC) COA. Frank
That's Bull. One of the grading services (at least) is it NGC ? grades them in the holder then seals the holder. Those GSA things are really the first slabs, as well as stuff like proof Ikes and proof sets. Can you get it by NGC (?) if reholdered in an ebay replacement ?, if so its meaningless to be in a GSA holder, at a premium. I could put any CC-dollar in an ebay (GSA)holder, then get the GSA premium attached to that ?
