I spent a decent penny on this 1924 Peace dollars yesterday which has a wonderful luster and surface, brilliant and I believe undipped. And I looked it over very carefully before buying it in the dark room at the dealer. It has great strike detail and no wear to my eye. When I finally brough it home I realized when photographing it, that it has a serious scratch in the tail feathers.

First, lets see the movies to show off the huge Booming luster of this coin!

See the details of the bust is almost perfect including the hair lines. The eagle on the reverse, complete in detail. Hard to photograph because of the luster..

    Just a great A+ coin!

Its easier sometimes to right click on it and save it. Sorry. I should set up an icecast server and stream these things. I also killed the server before becaus eI needed to talk on the phone...sorry 'bout that.

Do you know what sftp is?

It's a very nice peace dollar regardless of the scratch.

yeah but that scratch has to knock it down from a 66 to a 63 at least and I paid some decent dollars for it. I swear I'm going to start bringing my camera to coin shops.

or maybe I should invent an electron magnifying glass. My Nokia can already do this..

I know what you mean. I can grade a coin from good photos better than I can with the coin in hand. Maybe I just spend more time looking at the photo than I do when holding the coin.

I don't miss major scratches with a photo at least. I poured over that coin and missed it.

Don't feel bad, it happens all the time. The lighting in most stores (and bourses) is notorously bad and leads to missing scratches/hairlines that are immediately obvious under better light. This is one of the reasons I prefer to buy on approval (where I can study the coin under good light) rather than on-the-spot....Mike

p.s. yes, I know what SFTP is (i.e. SSH FTP).

    p.p.s. downloading again, and it's SLOW -- getting around 36 KB/s.

its a 1.1 mgbt line. It gets a lot of connections sometime but only about 14 people are logged in now.

Ruben, that gouge on the tail is something I didn't think you'd miss especially when buying a MS66 quality coin. I looked at the movies and I didn't see anything positive about them as they were jumpy and not very sharp. Maybe it was my computer. Anyway, it a really nice coin.

the coin was so bright I didn't see it. Generally I look at the top of the Eagle for grading because detail disappears from the top, not the tail feathers.

the only thing they show is the luster of the coin. The detail is OK for a movie camera ;)

Finally finished the download. Neat! The video gives you a GREAT perspective into the coin's cartwheel/luster -- something very hard to judge on most photos.
