    Hello,

I was hoping to get opinions on a couple Peace dollars I just came across. I'm interested in what fellow collectors think of an appropriate grade and price range.

    Thanks in advance!

Looks like the typical weak strike on the obverse.(Lack of detail on the hair over the ear) To me the reverse looks a little weak also. I still think it will make an MS63-64.Depending on the actual grade I think a 63 would sell for $450? and a 64 for $800? I could be way off but from those pics it's the best I can do.A Very nice coin ! If I can remember where mine is I'll post it later......................................................John

    Hi John,

I saw this as more of a '55 than an MS.

    Thanks for the opinion!

I'd say more along the lines of XF and scratched. Value about $80.

Personally, I'm not seeing XF. This has significantly more detail than all of the dozen or so 1921 certified XF Peace Dollars I looked at on heritage. I suppose it could have a killer strike, then all the weakness we see is wear; but as a 1921 peace, I doubt it.

I also am not seeing any significant scratches. It looks pretty white, and has possibly been dipped. I agree with scotty at around an AU something or another, with a possibility of being overdipped, in the price range of $150+ or so.

At first I was going to agree and call it an UNC. I feel its an AU around 150-200 dollars. I feel that the head of the eagle shows signs of ware. This is not an area of the 21 that is generally effected by the strike.

Also look at the feathers high on the eagles wing. They lack the detail and they are typically struck with good detail. It's the feathers on the bottom half of the wing that are weakly struck.

Grading coins from photos is very difficult. Grading coins from photos at a severe angle is impossible. I won't even venture a guess.

I agree. The 1921 Peace Dollar is notorious for very weak strikes,
and some with very low luster. From the angled pictures in the 2x2,
one cannot even venture an educated guess.

It definitely looks like it is cleaned. I would not even grade it.
