I recently submitted a 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set to PCGS and they graded all the coins as regular proof coins. anybody have a similar experience?

Maybe it is because "Limited Edition" bears no significance to anyone except the Mint. Is there a "Limited Edition" listed in the Red Book?

Did you provide the coin #s on the PCGS form or did they provide the #s?

It has nothing to do with limited edition. It's silver vs. clad.

Then maybe the OP should have been more specific. I've never heard of "regular proof coins".

This is exactly what happened, I submitted 2012-W $1 Silver Eagle Limited Edition PR Set, DC PR (PCGS coin number 517077), 2012-S 50C Silver Limited Edition PR Set, DC PR (PCGS coin number 517076) 2012-S 10C Silver Limited Edition PR Set DC PR Set (PCGS coin number 517070), 2012-S 25C El Yunque NP Silver Limited Edition PR DC PR Set (PCGS coin number 517071), 2012-S 25C Chaco Culture NP Silver Limited Edition PR DC PR Set (PCGS coin number 517072), 2012-S 25C Arcadi NP Silver Limited Edition PR Set (PCGS coin number 517073) 2012-S 25C HI Vocanoes NP Silver Limited Edition PR Set DC PR (PCGS coin number 517074), 2012-S 25C Denali NP Silver Limited Edition PR Set (PCGS coin number 517075) that I took from the US Mint packaging.
    This is what i received PR68DCAM Silver Eagle (PCGS# 511658), The Half PR67DCAM (PCGS# 511879)The 10C PR69DCAM (PCGS# 511873), 25C El Yunque PR69DCAM (PCGS# 510076), 25C PR69DCAM Chaco Culture (PCGS#510080), 25C Arcadia PR70DCAM (PCGS# 510084), 25C PR69DCAM Hawaii Volcanoes (PCGS# 510088), 25C PR69DCAM Denali (PCGS 510092).
That is $166 difference in price. More to the point is, if these are the people I am trusting to grade my coins am I wasting my money?

I hate to say it but is a picture possible? That would be easier on everyone (including you)

Looks like PCGS got the labels wrong. Just a simple mistake.

So how many kinds of proof finishes are there? Proof, reverse proof...that's all I know.

What?!? He said he sent in silver proofs & they came back as regular proofs. That is very simple to understand. You just jumped at the chance to be a smartass about the "limited edition" stuff. Come on Chris, you are way too knowledgable about coins to claim you didn't know what he was talking about because he said regular instead of clad.

Hmm...I didn't get that either. I thought he was talking about the limited edition silver proof sets from the mint and there not being an identifier on the label indicating they were part the set. I didn't realize he meant clad versus silver.

This is the kind of thing people go postal over. My compliments on your self-control, Chris. :)

In order to get the Limited Edition Silver proof label you had to submit a whole bunch of sets in the sealed boxes and use a specialty grading tier and pay a hefty fee. Or some such.

Look, we have too many people coming here using the wrong terminology, and until someone explains it to them, they can go for the rest of their lives being as dumb as a donut.

That's correct because the plastic the sets are in is not "sealed". Not that it really matters but a submitter could carefully screen regular silver proof sets and build a (hopefully) PR70DCAM "Limited Edition" set and submit it for the "Limited Edition" notation on the slab label. That's really what the OP was looking for:

    $_57.jpg

BUT, it appears that PCGS really screwed up this submission by giving a "clad" coin number to a "silver" coin. 510084 vs 517073

For sure the OP could contact Customer Service and get the labeling error corrected but it involves mailing them all back and then waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, for the correction to be made and the coins returned. It's really a pain in the butt that should not have happened in the first place. Someone, simply was NOT paying attention.

Sometimes, I wonder what the heck is going on down there in La La Land!!

At one point the 2012 LE ASE were going for thousands of dollars in PR70, as they were part of the PCGS registry. I sold mine sealed to a modern dealer who was hoping to score. Don't know how it turned out for him, but I got mine.

No real need to apologize, but accepted just the same.
