I have a 1963-D MS-63 Franklin half dollar that I had purchased with significant double die on the reverse. I'd like to sell it, the only problem I have is that PCGS didn't print the double die attribute on the sticker. It's a pretty large value difference from $18-20 to the $150-350 I've seen coins of this type go for. But what I'd like to know is, can I get the actual value from the coin without the attribute printed, or would I be wasting my time listing it without sending it in for re-certification? i wouldn't say you would be wasting your time, but i would give PCGS a call and let them know about their error and if you get lucky they may reslab it for free !
PCGS will only designate an FS number (CherryPickers’ Guide) for a doubled die on the holder. If it is a DDR not in the CPG they will designate it as a “minor variety”. There is no DDR 63D in the CPG. Larry Nienaber
Pretty much any TPG I know of will not even mention errors/varieties unless they're asked to, and yes, they charge an extra fee on top of the basic fee for authentication/grading to attribute an error or variety.
PCGS will not show this variety on the slab. It's not in the CherryPickers guide. All you can do is sell it with good images showing the doubling and hope someone is willing to pay more to own it. Are you sure it's actually a doubled die?
