OK, I got some nice coins for my presidential display case but my washington p has a nick right at his lip. Now I went online just to find out if I could get a better one for cheap and I was looking at pcgs ms65. Would those have nicks on??? I cant really see any pictures that well, or will I have to go higher in grade???? I cant find any graded pics online, any help would be greatly appreciated.......I still have some others to catch up on, so even a good website to buy from would be greatly appreciated. THANK USE!!!!!!
You might want to read up on and get a better understanding of grading. For most coins in MS-65, there is an allowance for minor flaws such as the nick on his lip. Those dollars are know for being particularly 'baggy'. They must be somewhat soft as most new ones seem to have been pretty beat up coming out of the mint. Despite that, MS-65 should be a relatively common grade on these. If you want a more perfect one, you'll have to go up to MS-66 or 67 but it will likely cost a lot more because they will be rarer. Somebody here will come along and be able to assist you better than I can as far as where to locate one.
Seems reasonable. MS-65 means "gem", not "perfect" - which would be MS-70. One should expect an fabulous, outstanding coin for 65, but not perfect.
While I don't have a PCGS coin to show you, I do own an NGC MS65 Washington Presidential Dollar. Notice, there are scattered marks on the surfaces of both the obverse and reverse.
Lehigh, IMO that dollar is horrendously over graded. Do you agree with the assigned grade? Are all the marks on the forhead and fields as prominent in hand?
I own 4 of the MEL's in MS65 and they all have the same appearance. I just figured that was the standard they applied to this series. The photo does enhance the marks somewhat, but they are there. Here are photos of the other three. The satin finish Presidents I have encountered are much cleaner and I always assumed they would grade MS67-68 range. Here is a photo of my raw satin Presidents. I will admit that with these modern coins, I really don't care to learn about the grading process, I just wanted them.
I agree with Snaz...It looks pretty ugly. Definitley not slab worthy you should find at least 20 better ones in a roll that coin should have been put in a coinstar and you should have used the money towards a better coin
Vess1, If you're hoping to get one with a mark-free face, you'll probably have to step up to an MS68. Even MS67's will have light marks in the prime focal areas. Chris
