when the george washington dollar coins were first released the cost to grade at pcgs for a modern error was 15 dollars , but two weeks into the washington smooth edge error craze they decided to raise the cost to grade a modern error to 40 dollars ,now IMHO thats just GREED ... pcgs could have gone to 20 dollars if they had to raise it and i would have even thought that was fair .. but to jump from 15 to 40 C'MON GUYS

I would if I thought the cost of the slab, would bring me more than the cost of slabbing in the long run(or maybe short term). I can already see this turning into a slab and not slab the coin debate. Here we go again! :)

PCGS went to $40 on all error coins.
I don't feel it's worth the fee on most error coins.
    Just my opinion:)

I think that if you have an error like an Adams dollar smooth edge which sells for a couple hundred dollars in 65, then the 40 dollars might be worth it.

Some errors it is worth it, some it is not. I'd prefer ANACS though for errors, just me. Although, I've never sent in a coin to be graded, so I can't offer to much of an opinion on if the price is fair or not.
