Went to the LCS. got both for 30 each. Seems the nickel is twice that according to the price guide so maybe I should try to flip that and have some more money for the small cent set I started. I didn’t have any interest in the registry until pretty recently.

The buff needs a reholder. I have never seen such a nasty slab before, I feel like I can’t enjoy my coin! Lol.

Also, here’s a 2005 Kennedy half. I don’t do errors like at all but to me this was collar clash like. Probably wrong but feel free to chime in.
Check out the left side there.

Oh. And I’m working on a few more acetone soaks. The peace from the other day is slowly improving. Anyone know how long I should keep it in? I was thinking overnight would be alright. image.jpg

Love the Franklin. I’m not sure but I think that is one of the older slabs. If so, I’d be tempted to leave that Buffalo as is. Very nice coin.

I don't believe you can harm a coin with an extended acetone bath.... What will cause you a problem is evaporation. That acetone will evaporate pretty rapidly from that paper plate leaving the broken down residue dried up on your coin. Better if you could find a jar or something with a lid.

Those are some nice acquisitions; @Evan Saltis, they'll make nice additions to your typeset. Granted, you've also spent much less money than I did today, that's for sure.

Yeah, just looking for one that isn’t nasty. Think I have one somewhere.

after this I might as well do a couple others. Separate jars I’d think, especially for the truly nasty coins I have.

The acetone bath certainly helped the peace dollar a bunch already, might as well toss these. I don’t mind cleaning them up a lil bit. They are sentimental lol and if I can have them a little prettier I’m happy. Acetone won’t hurt anyway image.jpg image.jpg

Yep it certainly is a little older. I’m not convinced it’s that old. Sure could use a buffing so I could see through.

I almost did. Decided to wait for a certain type to pop up for me in PCGS over NGC. Won’t elaborate for now

I'll post it when I receive it, which should be sometime next week. The only hints I’ll give you are that it was printed during President Grant’s second term and that it's a very rare type.

Huh. That dark 1921 S reverse has a little green and yellow toning going on. The rest of the coin is so nasty I really must give it a dip.

I’d go as far to say that as soon as the coin touches the acetone it gets some luster back. Or maybe that’s the fumes :yuck:

That Franklin is as old as me. Absolutely beautiful!

    I’m sure you’re beautiful too.
My first unc Franklin. Very happy with it, it is now in my PCGS type set. Recently have been very interested in using the registry to compare my collection to others. Maybe I could post a link.

First time I've ever seen a buffalo there that wasn't gray and dead. Or slick no dates. I like original luster, or as close to as I can get. I almost got one that was 120 (dont remember the date) which was a nicely toned MS66. But I'm very happy with it. Maybe I can even try to ebay it off to help get me a PCGS flying eagle

    I would guess a 1913 type 1.

Oh, and it's on both sides in the same spot. I just noticed. Is that a damage thing or a characteristic of a collar clash in reeded coins? I've never found anything as good as a collar clash before :(

I think it was more in the late teens. Really, can't remember. my brain is dying :cigar: lol

It looks damaged to me especially the top part which looks like intentional pushed metal.

Interestingly enough, the 38-D is actually the most abundant out of the entire series in Mint-State grades.

Whatever happened its not a collar clash or an error.
