PCGS/NGC Holders. Is there a site that lists their progression through the years?

Title says it all folks. Is there a site/sites that show pictures of the progression of the TPG's holders from inception to real time now? The only thing I can seem to find is sample slabs.

I bet if there were a financial incentive someone might build such a site.

Yeah. This is what I turned up too: http://www.sampleslabs.com/pcgs.html

You could ask over at the PCGS site. NGC also has chat forums, I don't know if they are very informative.

The site http://www.sampleslabs.com/ uses sample slab to track the evolution of the holder itself. The plastic, label color, font, data, etc. but they do not allow identification by month/year, which would be very helpful.

With the amount of members on this forum, we could probably make our own page. This would be informative and also help beginners in the hobby, Im shocked that there is not more information on this.

Conder would have them if anyone does.

Hopefully Conder will check in. The reason I ask is because today I received an Alabama Centennial half dollar in a PCGS slab that I've never seen before. It doesn't seem to be on any of the sample slab sites so I'm thinkin' it might be (maybe?) the newest slab? I'll get a pic of it up tomorrow, but to describe it......it's like an NGC edge view holder but the prongs are clear plastic.

Oh, and thanks for the responses guys.......:)

  10. I have seen these and believe they are relatively new. Your classic commemorative is probably recently slabbed. Looking forward to the pics. TC

Greenie, Conder can correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe the PCGS version of the EdgeView was first marketed in Europe before being introduced here in the States.

Other than the links provided to threads on the forums, there is no web site that lists the various varieties of slabs over the years. And if you read those threads, you'll see that they have not been updated in some time.

What you need is the book that Conder wrote -

Third Party Grading/Certification Services & Slab/Certificate Varieties - published in 2003. You can try the various booksellers and ebay to find a copy, but you'll probably look long and hard. It is the only such reference in existence.

Conder has been saying for several years now that he is working on a 2nd edition of this book. I waited for 4 years for the 1st edition to come out, and it's been close to that now waiting on the 2nd.

Only Conder can tell you how much longer the wait will be.

Need to see the rev also to identify it.

You would think that the company itself (PCGS, NGC) would have a history of their slabbiness.....:)

Thanks Bill, Owle, Lance and BRG for the links.

Not really. If they did then you could trace and date the slabs and thus track the grading practices and changes in their grading standards.

Not something they are likely to want you to be able to do ;)

OK, thanks Doug. If it's been out for so long how come you don't see that many? This is my first encounter.

Because they only used that slab for about 6 months.
