    I was wondering what you guys felt about this coin. It was a recently ended ebay auction and the coin sold very cheaply for a coin of this grade.

    Even though it's in a PCGS holder, it seems to me like some of the black spots and marks may have shown up after the coin was put in the holder, and I'm not sure its a great coin in a 64RD holder.

    What do you guys think about this coin? What money would you pay for it?

    I kind of like it, the spots are not that bad, at least they don't look like severe carbon spots.
    Nice early Lincoln.
    I don't collect early Lincolns, high grade. But, bid= $540, ask= $600.
    Spots= priceless.

    Shortgabob,
    I think the reason it was graded a 64 and not a 65 was due to the carbon spots. In my opinion it is properly graded.

    even if it did deteriorate, pcgs is supposed to back the grades on their coins forever, meaning if it deteriorates they are supposed to buy it back at market or regrade and cut you the difference. So bidding on that is a no lose situation

    I didn't think PCGS backed the grades on copper coins?....

    I'm not 100% certain, but I think the guarantee applies to copper coins that are in the blue labeled holders. I could be wrong of course, perhaps someone can confirm or deny?

    PCGS, unlike NGC, does have a guarantee for red coins. I am fairly certain this guarantee applies to the OGH/rattlers.

    That being said, I agree with the grade, althought I don't like the coin because of the spots/lines....Mike

    Cut that poor coin some slack! It's nearly 100 years old and it's been through WWI, the Great Depression, WWII, the turbulent '60's, etc. I'm surprised it looks as good as it does. The poor thing!!

    NGC guarantees copper as well, but only for 10 years.
