PCGS grading a mint proof set - Has anyone done this?

I was wondering if anyone here has ever sent in proof mint set to PCGS to have it graded. I was wondering what grades you ended up with.

I'm looking at my mint proof sets and all of the coins look exceptional, dang near PR70. But I have a feeling they would all come out as PR69 or lower.

Just trying to get a feel for the odds of having a PR70.

i've read online (excuse me if i'm passing on drivel) that only 1% mint proof new coins submitted to NGC make the PF70 grade. If your QVC, or ShopatHome and are sending in 100,000 RARE proof sets your probably only getting 1000 back.

If your Joe Blow and send in your 1 set, you might get lucky, then again, most likely odds are you'll have to send them 100 to get 1.

I'm not sure what Bone thougth was funny.....feel free to ask anything.

I'm one that doesn't think there is such a thing as a MS/PF70 coin....but if you want to try I suggest that you look at the coins long and hard with at least a 5X and see if any big marks or such....as a dealer or two what they think...

I thought it was funny thinking that PCGS would asign a grade of MS70. I've only seen a few and they all belong to one (ahem) person.

The odds of receiving a 70 on a proof coin are actually pretty good compared to mint coins, which is nearly impossible.I think the 100 to one may be a bit high for proofs but way low for mints.Probably averages out to that figure though.

Personally I think the odds are somewhere north of 1000 to 1 for a PF70 DCAM - with some dates they don't even exist. And that goes for PCGS and NGC. Even getting the PF69 DCAM is harder than most folks think.

In any case, unless you are very, very good at grading the coins yourself - it's not even worth trying. For even if you get the PF69 DCAM - the coin will sell for less than it cost to have it graded.
