For those of you who had a 2007 "Godless" (smooth edge) dollar graded, how much did it cost (for PCGS to grade it) ?
Heh yeah. I found a guy who had some at a very reasonable price (around what I wanted to pay in earlier posts for those of you who caught it), but... I asked if he had any certified and he said it was $40 more, which puts it out of what I wanted to pay.
I get the feeling that no matter what who charges, it would just be cheaper to buy it already graded, especially with a low value type coin as this. Once I bought a Morgan, and while it might grade MS66 (or a point less), it would have been cheaper to just buy it in the holder if that's what I wanted to know. I think I'm going to sell off some of the many duplicates I have, but there's a few that would fare better in holders. Question is, would they fare better enough to be worth sending them to be graded? Probably not worth the time, money, and effort for a < $100 coin.
If you have enough (including friends, a cooperative dealer or whatever), NGC will certify them at $6 a piece. However, you must have a minimum of 100 coins, at least 30% must be 65 or better, they will only grade the 65+ coins and I am sure there are other restrictions. This is how you see so many "cheap" coins getting certified.
If it grades at MS66 you could be looking at several hundered dollars and at MS67 a fortune. $40 doesn't seem too bad if you think it would grade. :smile
If Your Coin Is Worth, Say $800 At Ms 65, It May Be Worth A Couple Of Trys To Crack It Out Of It Holder And Resubmit It If You May Get A Ms 66 Or 67, At $1500 O5 $2200 Value. If It Costs You Only $30 Or $40 Each Time You Try To Regrade It. It's A Gamble You Might Want To Try. On The Other Hand When You Do This, The Population Of Graded Coins Of This Year Etc Goes Up Which May Make The Scarcety, Thus The Value Go Down. If The Population Is, Say, 75 And 25 Coins Had Been Resubmitted Then There Are Really Only 50 Coins In That Grade, Or Less If They've Been Submitted Multiple Times. It's Something To Think About.
