Hello everyone...I hope this finds you all doing well.
I know many of you do not condone 3rd party grading and this is fine as it is your choice. I just joined early this week (the PCGS Collectors Club at the Platinum level)...I received a very nice Currency book, rights to the sites population reports a (Gem 66 $2 note which I might have a contest for)and 15 free submissions (a value of $450.00) and a years membership in SPMC (Society of Paper Money Collectors)...

I just sent off today the 15 submissions from my aggregation of raw notes that include 5 Large size, 7 small size and 3 fractionals....
I bought all these notes and have posted images of them through out the Paper
Money fourm at different times over this year and last year...many of you have seen them.
As you know, I tend to only buy CHCU or better in the majority of cases and I am expecting these type of grades.
I am already excited about their return..LOL and yet a little apprehensive as well...

My reasoning for all this is that I would like to have a "Pedigree Set of the New York Collection" one day..the PCGS guide lines are that I HAVE THE SETS AT 100% COMPLETION! before a Pedigree can be issued...Tall order for sure as I am having difficulty finding some early stars...I am planning on a set registry and will post the notes on PCGS site once I have time to do so...

Not sure exactly why I am putting all this here except that I feel like we all share in each others collections and I just wanted to let you all know my long term goal!

One day, I hope that some of you may see the Pedigree from PCGS belonging to the "RickieB Collection"

Keeping my fingers crossed and eyes open in Massachusetts and the Web!!

    Regards to all....:D

Like the idea, not the cost. It is money I can blow on coins, paper money etc. Just me, ta cheap and parsimonious to buy memberships in things they should give me for free.;)

I know you will be anxiously awaiting those grades. I'm not a member so I have no idea what the collections look like or what it takes to make the Pedigree status. This should keep you focused on a specific goal which is always a good thing for the collecting types (as long as you don't go completely overboard like me :D )...

I wish you the best of luck with the grading and the goal! It would be cool to have your own collection name listed on the labels form PCGS!

    Best Regards

    Darryl

RickieB, as i was chatting via a PM ealier tonight abotu the term pedigree, i happened to use your collection as an example. While it is true there are other members whose collection might get there as well someday, i am most familiar with the quantity and sheer excellence of your collection. This is why i happaned to use you as an example.

And then i happened across this thread where you state that very goal. Deja-Vous lol.

Anyhoot... from what i know about your collection thus far, and your taste in fine notes... i feel VERY confident your goal will soemday be realized!

1 word of caution if i may :) dont go telling folks you want to build a pedigree set silly... those who have the money will also be looking for the very same notes you are ... could very well drive up the price  they may play the role of spoiler... or am i paroniod lol

Good luck! and keep us up to date on new notes AND the grades you get on the notes you sent in......

    Thanks everyone for your remarks....

Daggar, you have a point there. The good news is that I am well over 80% there and I am looking for a needle in the haystack so to speak. I saw an 1928 $20 NY note in Gem 67 go for 1850.00 yesterday! I can only imagine what the Star will sell for if it exist!
Iy will be a slow progression to the completion I know this for sure....but currently I have the time and eagernees to search the trenches. Out there some where is the person that holds the final keys to my goal...I am sure it will cost me dearly!

Thank you for your comments and concerns..wish I had more friends like you DJ!

Congrats on the PCGS Collectors Club membership RickieB and best of luck with your New York Pedigree Set.:high5:

I happen to be the CT member who bugged DJ to explain me the term 'Pedigree Set' after seeing that term in this thread:D. As this thread is a feel good one; I didn't wanted it cluttered with my rookie questions.

Best of luck with your collection and happy hunting the remaining illusive 20% of the NY set.:)

Frankly I could care less about the holder the notes I have TPG'ed are in. All of my TPG'ed notes are foreign, and I could care less about what they graded them. I graded them on my appeal for the note not their opinion. I think I have PCGS, PMG, and I think some other company. I have almost been at the point with a couple of Canadians that I want to liberate them because I cannot image the notes easily with them in the plastic tombs.

Here is an example of an image spoiled by the TPG holder:

When and if I buy a USA note in a TPG, it will only be a PCGS holder, and will likely be a 1923 Red Seal $1 ie the Legal Tender, and I want in NO less than a 65. Pricey but one of the most attractive one dollar bills ever printed by the USA.

Nice note SM...and as I mentioned TPG is up to the individual....each of us have our own goals....and I simply expressed mine.

Good luck on the Red seal $1...and get ready to shell out 1500-1800. USD for it...thats on my list but I have many other fine Large size to chop down first.
    Like the Lincoln Porthole, Rainbow $1, and $5 notes....LT $20 and $50

Everyone should have long term goals...even if they feel a little Quixotic.

Best of luck completing the set.

    Neil...thanks for the wishes..LOL

The reality of this is daunting to say the least, I have a long way to go with many notes to add and get registered...ugghhhh what a process this will be...but when it is finished , if ever, it will be Grand!!
