    Hello everyone! :D

I picked this beautiful 1881-S Morgan up the other day, and decided to share it with you all. It has been graded by PCGS, and I wanted to do my first "Guess the grade" topic, so here it is! :hail:

I will post the grade PCGS had given it on the 15th. Have fun!

P.S. If anyone has any information on what that "thing" is on the obverse around 9 o'clock, that would be helpful :D

Is it in a new holder or older type holder?

In the older type Toad (Green Label) ;)

I've found that ones in older holders have a tendacy to have a tad bit lower grade than most of the ones in newer holders, that's why I asked. ;) So, since it's in a older holder, I'd guess MS-63. :thumb:

You could crack it and send it in and probably get MS-64 out of it, with how they grade now. ;)

    Sweet coin! :D

    Ribbit :)

Given it is an '81-S I doubt the grade would change. I too would go with 63.

As for what is going on at 9 o'clock, looks like it might be a retained strike-through. Not often you see those. It appears to be a small piece of wire.

Hmm, nice look on that Mint Mark Toad. As a matter of fact, the top of the "S" is either doubled, or has some kind of die problem?

EDIT: Here is a better picture of the "error"???

that looks like remnants of a repunched mint mark.

It is a shame that the obverse is not in the same condition as the reverse. I like the coin but I also think the obverse marks in the focal areas will limit the grade to an MS63. Not to worry, the price does not really start to rise on the 1881-S until you reach gem state so MS63 & MS64 makes little difference. Nice coin with a typically strong 81-S strike. Congrats.

Here are some weird clashes/die errors on the coin?

That strike-through, if it is one, would have way more impact on the coin than any VAM characteristic.
