I need to a little information and this is the best place I know to ask it. I buy a few items on the bay from time to time. I recently made a purchased of a Nickel set and tried to go through Pay Pal using my credit card but kind of got confused.

I know this has been discussed in here before but I am not sure I have this down. Right now I have my bank account as my primary and would like to have my credit card as such. Do you have to switch payment preferences every time you make a transaction:headbang: Thanks

So far as I know, it is cheaper for PayPal to use a bank account so they are not going to make it that easy for you to use another method. They are going to make you go through all the steps every time.

If the set up is the same as paypal uk then you should be able to pick which is your primery method of payment

I've accidentally paid through the bank account when I intended to pay on the credit card. Thankfully, it was only a small item.

Ebay will only let you use a credit card issued by them for Paypal transactions. Thats' just the way they play the game. They claim this is so they can " verify " payment ... whatever that really means. So , the other choice is exactly what you are doing .. using a bank account and having to change the preferences to your " back-up " credit card each time you pay. The only other choice is to get ad Ebay issued credit card.

I never use my PayPal credit card, I do not have an eBay credit card, but I always pay with my Discover card.

OK, once in a while, I miss changing it, but I almost always use my Discover.

Yes, you have to make the choice each time to use your own credit card. The only options you can take without changing each time is to use their credit card or your bank account.

I don't want them to have access to by bank so I just make the change each time.

They don't like you to use your own credit card because they can't control the situation and put you off when (if) you ask for a chargeback from your credit card company on a bad transaction.

Thanks group. Think where I got confused was on the switch payment method. After I bought this item, I went ahead and click the little payment button. I tried to change my method of payment but a pay pal message poped up about how you may not be covered by their buyer protection plan bla bla bla. I then clicked on the "pay with generic cc'' Think this is where I made my mistake. I thought pay pal folks were talking about a cc other than the one they wanted you to get through them. Well the next little message I got was "Contact the seller about making a payment with CC " Anyhow I had to contact he seller and paid with the credit card I had listed on my Pay Pal account and the one I was trying to use to complete this transaction.

I really did not mind giving my cc information out to this particular seller. I liked his feedback and also his stated emphasis on customer service and toll free phone number. I believe most people try to do the right thing but their are always a few people who are going to try to destroy ones faith in man.

One other little question, can you delete your bank account information on your pay pal account so any purchases go directly to your credit card or back up funding. The few purchases I will make, I really do not think they need my banking account information. If by some chance I do go over my CC limit, well it will be time for me to have a serious talk with myself. Thanks... I go now.

I need to clear up my first message. I didn't mean to say you couldn't use " any " credit card to make a Paypal payment. What I meant to say was that Ebay will only let you use their own issued credit card as the primary source of payment on Paypal. You can use a credit card as the alternate payment method without a problem. It just means that every time you make a payment you need to make the change to the credit card or use the " primary " bank account instead. I hope this clears it up. It's just another way to try and get more money from an Ebay'er by trying to force them to get a new credit card.

I don't think you can totally delete a bank account from their system. You MUST provide a bank as a backup. I think that's so that ebay has a guaranteed source of getting their fees if you cancel the credit card. You could set up a separate bank account with $10 for ebay's bank of record. That would protect your other accounts from being touched without your authorization.

One thing to watch if you want to switch to a card is when you click the verify button. I've done it a couple times. It asks you, "Are you sure you want to switch to a credit card?"

The "Don't change Button" is bright orange. The "Change" button that you want is dark grey and doesn't catch your eye at all. It sounds crazy but I've clicked the bright orange button a couple times (meaning it didn't change) and ended up paying with my bank account on accident.

Despite the writing on the buttons, the bright orange one stands out like the one you want. I'm sure they did this to intentionally trick people and I was surprised that it worked on me the first time as well.

Goes to show you ebay is only out for the almighty dollar> It doesn't matter if the coin is a fake, long as ebay gets their cut!
