I went to my credit union looking for more coin rolls. :eat: They actually had 5 half dollar rolls; nothing =\ anyway today I did my transaction blah blah blah, drove the teller nuts So after all of that I asked them if they would order halves from the fed reserve for me; sadly I got the teller that doesn't seem to like me and my cherry picking She said no they would not which struck me as odd because the day before when i got the halves i asked if they had anymore in the back, the teller said let me ask my supervisor... she came back "what kind are you looking for?" she asked. I said the old silver ones, she went back then came back and said that they only had silver looking ones! (oh wow really?) And said only the new 2009 halves. So my point out of that little story was they had NEW 09 HALVES, but yet they wouldnt order older ones from the fed reserve with no possible premium?? Any thoughts who i would talk to? Manager? head teller? Thanks for any thoughts! Much appreciated!
Head teller or any person who actually orders coin/paper for the bank. Maybe assuring them that you would not be returning the coins back to them may help as well as taking anyhthing they offer, even if it is nothing special.
I would talk to a teller coordinator or vault teller...whom ever is in charge of their change orders. That would be the person who makes the weekly orders from their armored service. If that person is willing to order them for you...then they should be easily able to get them.
Pick up the 2009 halves. They are the lowest mintage of the series and were not intended for circulation. I wonder how they wound up at the credit union.
They were probably dropped off by a customer. From my experience...most banks and credit unions don't normally order half dollars on a regular basis.
This has been my experience also. Credit unions are not a reserve and don't order a stock of coins. They get what the members bring in. If those coins are not taken/ /used once a week wells fargo or whomever comes to pick up the majority of them
Sweet on the 09 halves how many should i pick up all or just 20 bucks worth? And is there really a way of finding the head teller or the ones that deals with change orders? I talked to the desk in front of the vault (assuming they were the vault teller) and asked who I would ask then, he said just a teller, but from my story above no luck with that particular one =\
YOu can ask any teller and then they tell the teller that orders the $$. SOmetimes it is best to skip the middleman.
If you really want to avoid irritating the teller any more than you have to, spend the coins you recieved in the rolls (the ones you didn't keep), rather than return them.
Just ask who is in charge of their currency orders. They have to have someone that ships them currency and coins. One person on the staff makes that order. They should all know who it is...and once you find out, then ask that person directly. I worked at a bank we had one person who did this. At my bank, the vault teller did the orders.
Very rarely will i return coins rolls to the same place i have gotten them from, and just figured out that they had a $500 box of halves!... but by mistake and they dont order halves, or very rarely do they:desk::desk::desk: So i guess ill have to try my luck at a Wells Fargo... assuming they like halves
It depends on the branch...I worked at a US Bank branch and we never ordered halves (except when I had one of my coworkers order a couple boxes for me...then they did). I would go to whatever bank you usually do business at and ask if the can order them for you. They should be able to even if they don't typically order them.
So if i made friends with the manager of that bank would that increase my chances of getting them to order halves?
Buy them all. If the halves are wrapped by the mint then they carry a premium. If they are just bank wrapped then decide how many you want to keep. There is a small premium on loose halves and you can always trade them. Good luck
I would think getting to know any of the staff as a "regular customer" whom they like would help...yes.
I hope that everyone realizes there is a difference between a bank and a credit union when it comes to asking for coins. The OP referenced that it is an credit union.
