Hello everybody, Something I like to do a couple of times a month. What I like to do is every so often buy a roll of full date Buffs or roll of WWII steel/zinc cents all well circulated of course. When I'm putting my change in my pocket some mornings I'll throw a couple of coins in with my other change. Then I spend them thru normal commerce during that day. Kinda gives the folks that don't collect and incentive to research and maybe start collecting.
I do the same, but I usually give them as tips most often. It's not a regular habit, but if I have common numismatic stuff, I'll stick it in my pocket to keep the ball rolling. ...seems to me I have some mercury dimes I need to get rid of.
As much as possible I prefer to do that with people I know. That way, if one of them shows some interest in the coin, I'll probably hear about it and I can follow up with additional encouragement. It's also fun to drop the occasional Sacagawea on wait-people who aren't expecting a tip, like at Quiznos or Wendy's.
I did that once with a biccentenial half dollar. Guy gave me a weird look and then put fifty cents in the cash register putting the half dollar in his pocket. Yeh another one converted. I like to do that from time to time.
I always make a point to give out a few.. Silver eagles for the birthdays or at a wedding, graduation, I like giving the kids IKE's for helping in the yard
