looks like spray paint to me too because on the backside it looks like it smooths out the surface in areas of heavier concentration. Although Split Plating around many of the outer edge letters.
It's a 1988 so that makes it a super thin copper plated Zinc core cent. Maybe the electrostatically plated copper was too thin in places. But I've never seen one to know what one actually looks like to know.
Looks legit to me - although normally you see partial copper/partial zinc showing on some, this appears to be 'light copper plating' -

The problem here, is there a way to remove areas of plating, via solution or whatever, to make it look this way? And if that's possible, how can you tell the difference between missing partial plating and PMD?
