Hey everyone! And the Parthian spree continues, this time with a dichalkous of Arsaces II. Granted, this coin isnt in the best of condition. However, i love the strike and the original patina of the coin. Arsaces II reigned from 211 to 185 B.C and was the nephew of Arsaces I, the founder of the Arsacid Dynasty. This coin comes from the very beginings of the empire, when the Seleucids (under Antiochus III) still wielded sway over the infant Parthian Empire (really, before it became an empire). Nonetheless, the coin is fascinating to look at and to think of what it has seen. Hope you enjoy this little coin, and, as always post similar ones if you have 'em! Parthian AE Dichalkous 2nd century B.C. 3.50 gms, 16mm. Rhagae-Arsaica mint. O. Arsaces II, R. eagle standing atop bulls head, horse facing right. Sellwood 6.2 ex Pars Coins
Parthian bronzes used to be almost impossible to find. I have been seeing more of them the last two years. Cool coin and cool emperor.
Very nice coin! Good quality Parthian bronzes are tough to find, and early bronzes (with the portrait of the king wearing a bashlyk) especially so.
That's pretty awesome, looks great with that green patina. I'd love to get a Parthian AE, a common Elymian is as close as I have currently.
