Whats a good defination or description of a paper pull on a note?would that be a result from possibly a rubber band against the egde?

Not really, normally it's caused by an adhesive that pulls the top layer of the paper away, leaving usually uninked paper showing underneath.

For instance, this note below has a paper pull:

You can see the design is gone, leaving a very slightly tufted raw paper underneath.

I cannot really see the way a rubber band could cause it UNLESS it was left wrapped for a long time and the rubber broke down and adhered to the note (I've seen this happen to natural rubber many times on things, cords and such, left in a hot place over many years). Just having a rubber band around a note won't cause this, unless again the rubber turns into an adhesive and takes the note paper away during removal.

Number one cause of this - tape. People mount a note with tape or an adhesive, and in trying to remove it, the top boundary of the paper surface gives way.

Ok thanks...that explains it.i perhaps thought a possible rubber band leaving a rounded and raised circular border to be "pulled" without a rip or tear on the ends.is it safe to say a note with pulled paper is just above a note that has a pieace of paper missing?

It has the paper surface missing - missing paper implies something gone that affects the shape of the note, like a missing corner. Here, the shape is the same, but the paper surface has been pulled away by something that was stuck to it with greater adhesion than the paper fibers to themselves...

Thanks for this thread, I have heard the term paper pull before but I was not sure what it meant, now I know I have a 1934a chicago district 20$ mule with a paper pull problem, the note is probably in a low fine condition so it is basically a face value note. But it was one that my Dad had collected so it will stay in the collection.

Sentimental value is always worth more to me than the condition of a note. Even with a paper pull I think it's great to keep it in your collection.
