Paper or plastic?

Discussion in 'Paper Money' started by americanpatriot, Apr 5, 2005.

  1. Which is better for the health of a coin - the paper/cardboard holders that are stapled together or the plastic ones that snap together?

I guess I especially wonder about the silver coins and if the plastic holders would be more air-tight and slow down the tarnishing process?

    Thank you for any help.

That could be somewhat misleading. The cardboard 2x2s have Mylar or similar inert plastic, which is the best there is. The downside is the paper dust, which must be carefully monitored.

More substantial plastic cases are great, but how many low value (for now) coins will you put in those? I put SEs in them, but at 50 cents a whack, there isn't much else I buy them for lately.

  7. I definitely like the look of the plastic holders better, but the cardboard ones fit in the binder sheets... Do they make binder sheets or other type of displays for the plastic ones?

they make boxes for them, those plastic sheets can also have PVC (very bad for coins)
