I bought a cookbook from the 1920s and and I found this money inside among the pages of the cookbook l have more then this there are$10 bills$1 bills and $2 bills there was $132 dollars in the book I paid $3 should I sell all the bills as a lot or separately
Too bad about the condition, some are face value, but the gold certificate and the undamaged national currency should bring a premium.
My great grandmother, who lived through depression, did not have much faith in banks. She kept most of her money (she was very wealthy) stashed away in her house. My mom likes to tell the story about when she died and they went through her house, there were bills stashed between the pages of almost all the books in her library. They had to search that house with a fine toothed comb before they auctioned off the estate. Probably still missed stuff.
What a cool find. Reminds me of my wifes great grandmothers passing. She whispered to my wife to go to her tiny house and take the money she had hidden behind a loose brick in the mantle. That sweet little lady had almost $2000.00 in tightly rolled bills like this.... Those that lived through the depression were all too aware of what it meant to do without.
My parents went through it and said things got a lot tighter but they were all farmers and were self sufficient.
