THRACE, Black Sea Area. Pantikapaion . Circa 2nd-1st Century BC. Æ 31mm (19.46 gm). Young head right wearing a laureate, Phrygian helmet, helmet decorated with stars / PAN-TIK[A]/PAI-TW[N] in two lines across fields, Dionysos standing left, holding grape cluster in right hand, thyrsos in left, panther at his feet left. SNG BMC Black Sea 936; SNG Stancomb -; SNG Copenhagen -; Anohin 201; Laffaille -. VF, orangish-brown patina. Overstruck on an earlier Pantikapaion Æ, Poseidon/Prow (SNG Stancomb 586, see the previous lot), with the undertype clearly visible on both sides.

Looks like yours may have the same undertype.

Nice coin! and pretty rare, it seems!

How funny... I saw that very coin in CNG's archives earlier this morning when searching for something else. It was immediately put on my wish list but it may stay there for a long time given its infrequent appearance.
