With the china mint forum down I don;t have many places to ask panda questions. I bought a better date panda 2002 1/2 gold panda in OMP. It has a faint hairline which I didn't pick up till I got home. I have a chance to return it for a full refund. I have some photos but they are not that good as it is difficult to capture. Majority of the angles you do not see it at all, but in the right light and right angle it presents itself. At one time this was a $4-5K coin, listed ones on ebay are still in that range but no history of recent sells. Pricepedia has it valued at $4000 right now, I didn't pay those amounts for it. What's your thoughts? Also who's buying right now, I'm a bit worried with geopolitical issues between the US and China my guess it will not improve. third photo shows the tick/hairline.
I can't tell from your photos, but do you think the tick/hairline is enough to detail the coin or just lower the grade? I found an MS 61 NGC example that sold on GC for $968.62 (with the fee) in November 2022 (which is a fairly small premium above melt for a panda; gold spot was 1,770 on the day the auction closed). Would you consider that a close comp (or do you think yours should sell for above MS 61 money)? https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...00-Yuan-Panda-PAN-350A-NGC-MS-61-AGW-04999-oz
Thank you for that post. Yeah that one is beat up good. I would guess this one would grade 67 which would tell me to keep it in the OMP.
