Hi all, I'm new here and to the collecting world so bear with me. I have a 1944 10 pound that was left to me by my uncle who recently passed. I'm trying to determine the value and hopefully find a buyer for it to settle the estate. The note was sold to him in 1977 in xf condition and has been stored properly (I believe) since then. It's one of the last few things and is proving to be quite difficult. I have seen them go for as low as 6k all the way up to 60k at auction in similar condition. As of right now the plan is to send it to PMG for grading but I'm unsure of where to go after that. Any help or insight on the matter is greatly appreciated thanks and pardon the iPhone pics.

Have to admit that I'm not familiar with world notes as much as US currency, but I want to thank you for sharing this example. It really is a nice note and I would like to see what others have to say about it.

An Extra Fine example sold on Heritage back in 2008 for $8,050 so that might give you an idea.

Palestine notes have skyrocketed in price in the last 10 years. The prices you quoted from the auctions are dependent on the dates. The $60,000.00 sale was for a 1927 note. The most recent sale for a 1944 note that I could find for a note in similar condition was by Heritage in 2008 that realized $8,000.00. A lower grade note (Fine) was sold by Lyn Knight in 2011 for $2,300.00.

Once you have it back from grading, contact the major auction houses (Lyn Knight, Heritage, R.M. Smythe, Goldberg's, etc.) and shop it around for the best commission rate.

It is a scarce note in wonderful condition and should do well at auction.

That's quite a stunning note. Looks to be P-9d in my SCWPM, which shows pricing of $1000 in Good condition, $2000 in Fine, and $4500 in XF. Given those numbers, I'd be cautious not to read too much in to them as far as what you might get for yours, because obviously the note is rare and connecting it to the right buyer will be everything in terms of getting a good price. I"d recommend an auction house, rather than an ebay sale. And of course it would be nice if it were in an auction which contained other Palestine items, so that the "right" collectors would be drawn to the auction.

    Good luck with it!

Thankyou all so much for the prompt responses! I wasn't expecting to get rich on the note but I would like to maximize the value of course. Of those auction houses do any of them particularly cater to foreign notes? Or draw a larger crowd per say?

I would say your best bet would be Lyn Knight for the auction at the Memphis show this summer.

Hey one more quick question. I went and got the invoice and everything from PMG and they said packaging instructions would be in there but I couldn't find a link or anything. Is there any special way it needs to be shipped? I was just going to place it inside a hard cover book with the invoice. Would that be ok?
