So I went to the dollar store and bought some pretzels, came out to $2 even.
I gave the cashier a two-dollar bill (as that's all I had anyway, lol).

she said "oh wow" - and I figured she just enjoyed seeing it since they're not too common.
But then she says "are you sure you want to spend this?"
I said yes. and she said "because it's one of the rare bills"
    I just said "it's fine"

I'm hoping she'll research it and learn for herself that its not rare/worth anything :smile

thing is, I spent 3 other two-dollar bills previously at other places, and the employees never flinched. oh well.

Good for you, I like spending them and almost always get a reaction. It's fun to brighten someones day - with really - no extra effort.

I have to admit I've sometimes gone to banks to get some $2's purely for the sake of having the fun spending them and see how people react. Though it's usually a byproduct of me trying to find bills worth saving, and spending the ones I deem not worth saving. Have done the same with half dollars too.

It is amusing how many people think the everyday $2 Federal Reserve Note is a rarity.

I see sooo many at the shop that come in with collections. Kind of breaks their hearts when I tell them to spend them.

I'm torn between spending the cool stuff and getting the credit card rewards. I've kind of compromised at about the $10 mark. Anything less than $10, gets paid with $2 bills, $1 coins (IKE's,SBA's,SAC's,Pres), and halves. Quarters and less go into the coin counters with all the other coins I've already searched.

there have been a few times where a cashier didn't want to take the money and a manager had to get involved. Funny thing was, the manager took one look and didn't hesitate to tell the cashier to take it.

I forgot to add. I believe the Banknote Reporter got it's roots some 100+ years ago as a newspaper devoted to merchants helping them decipher what is legal tender, what is counterfeit, what is a broken bank note, etc.... Maybe it's time they got back to their roots?!?! :)

    unfortunately.

But then again, I do that too. Only because I want to spend the 2's again though, and keep them circulating. lol
