I just purchased these 40% halves for $8.15 with shipping on Ebay. The melt value is currently $8.07, I can live with paying over by $.08 but have noticed people bidding way over I think you can get silver coins for. Why do you think that is? That people are willing to pay more for silver coins on Ebay? Even those worth a couple dollars over melt, go for couple dollars more like VG common date Barbers and standing quarters. Has anyone else noticed this? Here is my win: http://www.ebay.com/itm/320949947756?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
That makes sense, they appear to be making bids like silver is at $32 an ounce. I must have got good deals because even when silver was $32 and climbing, I got standing quarters starting at $7 and people are paying closer to $10 now for the same dates and grade. Can't say the same for other coin types, they seem to have a steady cost.
That's funny, because I've had a lot of 90% listed at right around melt for a few days (not on eBay, though, because I'm not giving them 15% cut) and have had no interest yet....
Not me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/lot-silver-..._Individual&hash=item3378f81ba6#ht_500wt_1074 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200797685331#ht_500wt_1074
I looked at what you have to sell and I would take a chance on one or two but it appears that you are looking to sell it all at once. I bought this for $5 at a PM shop. Anything like this?
Well, it doesn't really make sense to sell "junk silver" a piece or two at at time - can you imagine the shipping nightmare? Plus, why go through that trouble to sell something nicer for less than melt? That coin looks like a dealer's "seed" coin...a coin they throw in there to get people looking through the bin. Gotten quite a few nice coins that way!
Morgans at $20 a pop, that was a good deal since their melt value is a dollar something more per coin than that now.
Unless I messed up my math, it was just a bit over $15.51 a pop. Ten for $150 BIN, with $5.15 shipping. The catch, of course, is that the title said "1887 Morgan Liberty Silver Dollar" -- not "dollars". Otherwise, it would've been snatched up before I came across it, some two long minutes after it was first listed. It's been a while since I made a decent score by lurking on the new BIN listings. Deals are less common than they used to be, but they still come along occasionally.
I think I messed up the math but always add the shipping but that is still just $15.50 a coin. I know what you mean though, I don't even look at the buy it now listings since they are almost always way over priced. Looks like I am not the only one to mess up the math. The seller said that melt on those coins was $14.12 when according the numbers he gave, melt was $20.87.
This was actually mixed in a PM dealers junk silver bin. I asked for loose Barber quarters from the back. He said he usually didn't allow people to pick which coins they wanted but he allowed me to. I also picked this Walker below out of the bin. He also had coins in his books that hadn't been priced in a while. Truth is though, even though I am only looking to buy a couple silver coins right now, I think that someone is going to be reluctant to spend $1000 on a forum without any guarantee at all. Good thing about a brick and mortar shop is that you can buy everything that you are selling and walk right out with your coins. Even Amazon and Ebay have guarantees. I am thinking that many people would be reluctant to purchase that much on an online forum from someone very far away without any guarantee they will ever receive it. You can ship one or two coins in an envelope with a stamp. As you see on Ebay, you can buy a couple 40% halves at about melt, well 8 cents over like I just did. If you want to sell them all at once, the easiest and fastest way is to sell them to a brick and mortar shop. You could sell it all on this forum all at once, but there is a significant risk to the seller. Someone might buy it though but if you go to a brick and mortar shop or Ebay, you can usually buy as much or as little as you want. Most of the silver coins I am talking about are those in a $1 face or sold individually. You are looking to sell $1000 worth. A picture might help as well. It looks like you are selling a lot of good stuff at a very reasonable price but do see that people might be reluctant.
