Over Polished Die?

Are these lines/texturing the result of an over polished die? I know the nickel is pretty worn but the texturing really struck me as odd.

Actually, those lines are the result of "die fatigue".
Sometimes it's called "orange peel".

I have tons of Lincolns with that same kind of fatigue. Always interested me.

 

I agree. If I understand this right, the reason this happens is because the die is old, and needing to be replaced. Where dies were $$ back then they used them as much as they could and so you have this problem.
