Hello everyone, I was browsing for some ancient coins and saw this description next to an Alexander III stater (not distater!) Makes you want to scratch your head at the price. The dealer shall remain nameless. I've added the bold highlighting for effect. Maybe the forum has a list of outrageous prices you may have seen. Thanks! "About 17 mm diameter. About 8.5 grams of near pure gold. Obverse: Athena wearing crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on her head. Helmet is decorated with snake. Of the thousands of Alexander gold staters which I have owned or seen, this is the finest. Immaculate blazing surfaces with hard strike from fresh dies. NGC Choice Uncirculated — $37000.00"
Can't comment on the one you're referring to. Here's one from HA that sold for $4,456.25 back in April: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=3009&Lot_No=20021
Exactly..even in mint condition with gem quality I"ve seen these go for around $6-7,000 or so. To list it for $37,000 is really something!
