I don't know why, but the "S" always seems to have an aura of mystery about it for so many collectors. Nobody cares about a "D" on a coin, and it's for dang sure that nobody wants P on a coin. Chris
Thanks Rheingold and Chris....And your right Chris, ( But then you always are ) Seems everyone on this side of the country is fascinated with the "S" coins AND everyone on the other side of the country are fascinated with the D....And P?
You know, my favorite coins are those pre-1873 with an "S" mint mark. I once saw an 1867-S half dime at a show. It was damaged and slightly bent, but it had AU details with luster. In addition, it is rarely seen, especially in shops, and usually sells for WAY more than guide book value when it does show up (even with problems like damage and bending). To see it at $30 impulsed me so much that I simply HAD to have it. I wasn't going to see that good of a deal on this date/mm for a loooong time. It's one of my favorite coins, honestly. Also, to be more modern, Philly coins are the exception rather than the rule when it comes to circulation. Thank you, west coast.
The parks quarters rolls come in S - mint state. Have you cracked one open and searched it yet? Beaming with Luster!! That mint kicks out some flashy rolls. From the modern end! ---- Rick
