Excuse me, friends, but those little dotted red lines now appearing under some words in our posts as we type indicate that the words are misspelled. The point is to correct the spelling before the item is posted. Our Moderators have graciously added this spell check to Coin Talk and I think we should make use of it. I don't mean to be a smart-***, but I perceive that a lot of is are ignoring it.--gunsmoke
Yes, I agree, gunsmoke, And I don't mean to be a smart __ either but what about grammar? -***, but I perceive that a lot of us .....
Yes, the grammar is often atrocious, but that is often beyond the ability or interest of many to correct. I would be happy just to see better spelling on this site.--gunsmoke
Ben: And I have a PC, so they shouldn't be prejudiced, but you guys do have those mean TV ads...where you beat us up.
If you are running Firefox 2.X, then the redline spell check is built inm. I belieeve that si whayt you are taaalking aboot. I donnt thinak its an extra feeture of the forusm softwarea. Thanmskssss
No. The red underlining started showing up on my computer only about a week ago and I've been on the site since November. Furthermore, if the Moderators hadn't installed the spell check, GDJMSP would have corrected me. We don't insult fellow forum members at CoinTalk. .--gunsmoke
Strange. There was a discussion about how the feature works ... about a month ago: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=19837 As for Macs being "left out", well, I don't quite agree. I usually don't turn the spellchecker on, but Safari has a built-in spellchecking feature anyway. Those who use that browser, look at the Spelling sub-menu in the Edit menu, and maybe try it out ... (Edit) Just tried the spell checking feature in both Safari and Firefox. Works fine for me, with both browsers, and with both English and German. Hmm, so "spell checking" is not one word but two? Christian
I don't need no stinkin' spell check,I'm a spelling bee champien. But seriously, some of you might notice that the majority of my posts have been edited. This is because I read them over before AND after posting and usually find some typos and spelling errors which I correct as quickly as I can, that plus the fact that I often misidentify a coin and have to go back and correct my facts, hopefully before anyone notices. My dirty secret.:kewl:
Yes, there are several OTHER ways of checking ones spelling, but I stand by my point. Using an iBook- G4, OS-X 10.4.8, Airport T1 connection, and Safari 2.0.4 as my browser there is NO spell check feature listed. If I change browsers to Netscape or Firefox the feature is there. Here is ascreen capture. Take Care Ben
I think it has to do with the type of browser you are using. That was what I was told last time this topic came up.
Hmm, Firefox 2.0.0.1 for Mac has spellchecking built in. The same applies to Safari 2.0.4 - I use both with Mac OS X 10.4.8 ... So while I do indeed not see any "forum provided" spellchecking feature, I could have my messages checked "by" the browser. This is what the menu looks like in my (German) Safari browser - if anyone is interested. "Bearbeiten" is the Edit menu, "Rechtschreibung" is Spelling ... Christian
