Bones are aching so I sat in the easy chair and put Josh Gates on the TV and await the Tylenol to enter my bloodstream….. Josh is excavating Alexandria and they find several coins. Very cool. They hand the crusty coins over to a “numismatist” who’s soaks them…. Then takes a wire wheel to them…. That may be an acceptable practice for crusty 2000 year old coins…. But my rear end puckered up…
Yes, I noticed that and commented upon it. In one instance, they discover a beautiful green coin and by the time Professor Irwin Corey gets done with it, it's an ugly brown coin with bad surfaces. The bust of the now-decrepit coin was declared to be Alexander, and while I'm not an expert in the Ptolemaic AE series, the ones of that type I've seen were smaller. This looked to be maybe 30-33mm. Furthermore, the nicer example they flashed on screen was of the Zeus head type.
