I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for where i might look for a pleasant Richard the Lionhearted Penny?

Davissons and York Coins usually do, but don’t seem to have any nice ones at the moment.

These are usually rather crude, so I wouldn’t discount the beat up ones Halls Hammered Coins or Leodis hammered coins have. Heck, even ebay.co.uk has some decent ones.

Honestly I would stay well clear of Ebay.co.uk unless it is from Halls or Time Line as too often the coins listed there are miss attributed to Richard. The short cross coinage in general can make for a really nasty time to try and identify.

Along with the dealers FitzNigel mentioned I would also try R. Ingram Coins as they usually have a nice amount of stock though you have to request photos of coins below 100 pounds. You could also try Hammered British Coins and Arthur Bryant Coins though Arthur tends to run very high end.

Lastly, I would try Andy Singer and ask him what he has in stock. Despite not having his own website, he is probably one of the best dealers of medieval coins around and a true expert in the field. At the Baltimore show a few weeks ago he had an incredible amount of Anglo-Gallic and Plantagenet coins, probably more than you would find anywhere else State-side. He will be in Vienna, VA in a few weeks. If time isn't an issue Ill let you know if there is anything good.

Recently the English coins of Richard have become fairly expensive in relation to his Anglo-Gallic coinage. A nice denier of Aquitaine can still be had for around $100, which is not the case for his English pennies.

Thanks for the ideas, I am very particular about the look I want it to have and I'm in no hurry, If anyone else has any ideas or anything new pops up that you'd like to share with me, just holler.

Halls Hammered is an excellent source of English Hammered coins and is very knowledgeable and trustworthy. I have bought several nice coins from him. He may not show what you want in Stock but he adds new coins fairly often and will track down what you want if you ask him to.

I agree completely. This site is one that I check often for new arrivals.
