My gut says no, the shine doesn't seem like normal wear because it is just too even across the surfaces. I would expect that normal wear would be much more confined to the high spots with the amount of detail that is remaining. On a side note, I've always loved the old album toning.
Nice album toner and yes I'd say original. Looks high au to me tho I don't think it's strike as these were know. For great strikes
Tough call. The color isn't out of the realm of possibility for "original skin" but like Mainebill I don't think it Mint State and circulated toners always leave me leery. We'd probably have to settle on a clearer definition of "original." Which probably ain't happening.
My guess is the coin is a technical AU58 that the TPGs would push to MS63 for the color and originality.
Hard to tell from pictures, but I also think it's an AU58 and market acceptable. It bugs me a little that it has so much of that "circulated cameo" look that I don't really expect on a high AU coin, and I'm a little bothered by the fact that there's almost no color on the reverse devices.
Nice eye appealing coin if you like this sort of look,I myself do. However I say no to Original skin. May have seen some circulation possible a lite cleaning and then retoned. Again I like the look of this coin and wouldn't have any issues owning it. It has personally but hard to tell with out in in hand.
Very hard to tell from the photos whether it's original skin or not. I am also in the AU court on grade.
Hard to say. Nothing seems amiss, but coloring is unique. Not of personal interest, but still a nice coin for someone.
Can someone post the correct definition of original skin ... does it simply mean that the coin was never dipped, cleaned or artificially toned? It can still be toned but must be natural ... right? Is that it?
Yes, just that. Nobody has played with it since the day it was minted - whatever's on the coin is what it earned during a natural life.
I have to admit this coin is growing on me... I've been trying to do the Vam on this one. And I'm stuck between a 48 and a spiked S vam 9 . Large S tilted left?
Large S tilted left. This time of day I haven't enough bandwidth to look at images, so I can't help with attribution. Are you sure we'll see date doubling (if present) with these images?
OK it only took me better part of the evening but after several eye strain I think I nailed it a Vam #4 doubled date medium S makes it a R 3
