Can you send a coin to a TPG in its original packaging to prove the toning is natural or do you have to submit it in a 2x2????
If it is in the original mint package, you can. NGC doesn't charge for removal from Mint packaging, but I'm not sure about PCGS. Chris
Im assuming you are talking about NGC, only because PCGS has never charged me for removal of OGP or returning the OGP to me (you just have to write detailed instructions of wanting ALL OGP returned). P.S. PCGS does not require you to remove coins from OGP, but they do recommend it by stating that your order may be delayed a bit if coins are not submitted in 2.5 x 2.5 Mylar flips... They don't like 2x2's Also, it would also probably be smarter to send in a toned coin in the OGP so it doesn't get bagged as AT. Erik
How is that proof that the toning is natural? I can think of several ways to AT a coin in original packaging I'm not saying that has happened to any of your coins, but if the toning is questionable in color I can't imagine the TPG would ignore that just because the coin is in its original packaging.
Absolutely correct. Gases can easily be injected in cello packs and proof sets, since 1999, have not been hermetically sealed. Just like PCGS Slabs occasionally miss the sonic sealer, some proof set lens simply pop off. Even certain PCGS Slabs have had coins artificially toned while still in the slab.
