Found in mint bag of Oregon quarters. Is this a die crack and would it be worth getting graded?

It looks like it could be a Die Crack---most of the time small die cracks like this don't add any value but I have seen coin like this sell for more than $0.25 to the right buyer...at the right time.

    Welcome to the forum ;)

Not sure what you have there, but its not a die crack. Die cracks look more like a crack you'd find in a cement sidewalk.

If I were to guess, I say it might be a "dropped letter/number". If its a dropped letter, or in this case a dropped number, its a rare error. To me it looks like the left side of an "8". You can find and example of one HERE , just scroll down a bit.

    What do you think Mike?

I thought droped letters had the whole thing showing...not just half?

That's what I was wondering too. But I figured, being that its theoretically grim packed up into a letter/number, then I can see only a partial fill falling out, or a whole one that broke into pieces and only the harder portion surviving.

Is the defect raised or incuse (sunken)?

The defect appears to be raised.

It's too thick, too sinuous, and too short to be a die crack, in my opinion. That's especially true of blind-ended die cracks, which tend to be very thin. It could be an oddly-shaped die chip or some kind of die damage. The image is too blurred and dark to refine my diagnosis any further.

Here's a cut an past edit of oregonnative's original. I didn't change the size or anything, just moved a portion of the "defect". Looks like a perfect match for the left side of the 8.

I do believe lawdogct is on to something here! If it is a dropped letter, or in this case, dropped number you would want to have this one authenticated and graded!

A dropped letter is incuse, not raised.

After looking at the pic's a little closer, It look's almost identical to the top of the shorter treetop on the right? Look again and see if you agree.

I'm with Mikediamond, its not a dropped letter as I originally guessed, as the item is raised up from the coin.

My only other guess would be a die-clash, but I can't make any part of Washington's hair line up with that region of the reverse.

Oregonnative - do you mind posting a picture of the obverse (face) of the coin?

This is a fun one, not sure what it is :)
