Oregon was popular

    Just read on the US mint site that 720 million were produced.
    That's in the top 15 of quarters so far produced. It is a
    beautiful quarter.

    I wonder if Kansas will top it because of the bison.

    I think the Kansas bison won't be as popular because the bison nickel was a 'repeat' of a coin that was/is popular. Kansas is nice but not nice enough to warrant 720 million. Crater Lake on the other hand (deepest lake in the U.S., only national park in Oregon) is a classic.

    They make coins based on demand not on what they look like.

    to elaborate a bit, the mint is supposed to mint the state quarters based on the needs of commerce, when it comes to circulating rather than numismatic sales. Clearly, they factor in all those 10 year olds setting aside SQs as well. In 2003 2004 and 2005 they decreased the production of SQs to about 450-480M per issue (both mints) save for the CA, TX and OR issues. Haven't heard a good explanation for why they increased OR production so much (CA and TX were only a hair over 520M and 540M, while OR was 720M) Numbers are here:
