But not without a fight. Took forty minutes to get through on the phone (I first called at noon EDT), and it took about that long before the Mint actually updated their web site to include the Ocean Nickels. Now for the schedule slipping game.
The home page says "Now on Sale" and then when you click through the menus it tells you "This product will be available for sale on August 1, 2005 at 12:00 noon (ET)." I guess that means on sale only at noon. I don't think there's really any rush; I see they're still selling the Bison nickels.
I checked the Mint web site after noon as well and saw the "Product is not available" message so I called the 800 number. Maybe I was lucky but I got through on the first call. I ordered my rolls of Ocean In View nickels and asked why the web site said it was still unavailable, even though it also says that they are to start sales at noon today. She said it was just because the web site was having problems.....naw - you don't say - how can that be
I’m only buying three sets. One set I’ll put in plastic coin rolls with the Mint wrapper still on, one set I’ll put in plastic coin rolls without the Mint wrapper, and the third set I’ll distribute to family & friends & certain coworkers to try to “seed” potential coin collectors. It worked the last time with the Bison nickels. I have low expectations for the Ocean (and Bison) nickels as a future investment because of the sales volumes, but they’re so cheap (compared to most of my coin acquisitions) I’ll hedge my bets and get a few.
I bought two sets. I've bought two sets of each of the three past series from last year and this year and I never open the white boxes they come in. For all I know they could've shipped me rocks in those white boxes.
Or maybe they sent you platinum American Eagles by mistake. Remember the incident a few months ago where the Mint shipped something like $55,000 worth of platinum Eagles to a woman who only ordered about $2000 worth ? (I don’t remember the exact amounts, but you get the idea).
i ordered mine i got 3 it took me at least 5 times to place the order though, my phone would hang up on them.
If my phone hung up five times, I'd consider that it was payback for the way the Mint's computer disconnected five times back when I bought my Bison nickels.
Web site still says "Item Not Available" and will not let you order any. When I was home for lunch, they were not avail until noon Aug. 1. That was 2:00 et and I think this is Aug. 1st??? Now it just says "not Available". Looks like the ---- mint hasn't learned a thing!!!
And, someone here pointed out when the USMC commemorative was first up for sale that you can sometimes get quicker results by selecting '2' (check on status of existing order) than by selecting '1' (place an order). Somebody will answer '2' quicker, you can check your old status, and also place your new order.
It is 21:30 central time and I called the mint. Got right thru and ordered 10 ea 2 roll sets of the new nickels. Still can't order off the website. Only the goverment could operate like this. The phone order center is open till midnight eastern- I sure they pay night differental pay to. No need to trim any fat there.
