Don’t know if one would call the coinage of the Order of Malta a “country” per se, even if the mint is located in Rome. I still find those coins an interesting curiosity. Found this 1964 2 Scudo proof that has a mintage of only 1,000. Definitely unusual.

Malta has a long numismatic history. I find their coinage to be very appealing.

The OoM is actually recognized as an international entity by quite a few nations, and for a brief period in the 1950's they even had their own Air Force using Italian aircraft with OoM markings for their charitable projects.

Does anybody know if Malta had their own mint in the 1700's.
